International Shipping, Customs & Import Charges (EU & USA)

At Read My Mind Ltd we’re proud to ship our products to customers all over the world. Whether you’re ordering from the UK, Europe, the United States or further afield, our aim is always the same: dispatch your order quickly, package it securely and get it into your hands as smoothly as possible.

In recent years, however, several countries have introduced changes to the way imported goods are processed through customs. As these regulations are set by individual governments and customs authorities, they are unfortunately outside of our control.

This page explains the current position for customers ordering from the European Union and the United States.

European Union (EU)

From July 2026, the European Union introduced new customs rules for goods imported from outside the EU.

As a result, many orders sent from the UK to EU countries may now be subject to a customs charge before delivery. In most cases, your local courier or customs authority will contact you directly if payment is required.

These charges are not collected by Read My Mind Ltd and are not additional shipping fees. They are government import charges applied by the destination country.

United States (USA)

Changes to US import regulations have also affected many overseas purchases entering the United States.

Depending on the value of your order and the current regulations in force at the time your parcel arrives, your shipment may be subject to import duties, taxes or customs charges before it can be delivered.

If payment is required, your courier will normally contact you with instructions.

As with EU orders, these charges are determined by US Customs and Border Protection and are not collected by Read My Mind Ltd.

What happens after I place my order?

The process is usually very straightforward.

  1. You place your order through our website.
  2. We dispatch your parcel as quickly as possible.
  3. Your parcel travels through the international postal network.
  4. If import charges apply, your local courier or customs authority will contact you.
  5. Once any required charges have been paid, your parcel continues to its final delivery address.

Many customers receive these notifications by email, text message or through the courier’s tracking portal. Typical couriers we regular use are: Evri, UPS, DHL, DPD.

Please don’t ignore customs notifications

If your courier contacts you requesting payment, it’s important that you follow their instructions promptly.

Couriers generally hold parcels for only a limited period before returning them to the sender if the charges remain unpaid. (Often as little as 5 days!)

Should a parcel be returned to Read My Mind Ltd because customs charges were not paid, we’re more than happy to resend it once it has arrived back with us. However, as the original international postage has already been used, a new shipping charge will be required before the parcel can be sent again.

Why aren’t these charges included in my order?

Import duties and customs charges are determined by the destination country’s government and can vary depending on where you live and the regulations in place at the time your parcel is imported.

Because these charges are outside our control and may change without notice, they are not included in the prices displayed on our website.
