Participants reach into a jar, remove folded slips, and read them silently. There are no forces. No duplicates. And yet, you reveal exactly what they’re thinking, each & every time! All slips are different. Every thought is genuine.
And that’s where Preserved Thoughts begins.
A Familiar Idea… Reimagined
Preserved Thoughts takes the familiar idea of an affirmation jar and turns it into a powerful performance piece.
A collection of folded slips (28 per jar), each containing a different thought, message, or prompt, randomly selected and read. But here, that simple idea becomes something far more deceptive.
Every slip contains genuinely different information. There is no repetition. No fishing. No compromise in what the participant experiences. They choose freely. They read silently. And you reveal it.
The System
At its core, Preserved Thoughts is built around a single, structured approach.
You learn it once, and from that point on, it applies across everything you’ve just seen. The method draws from classic mentalism principles, layered and refined into something practical, reliable, and deceptive. Nothing feels procedural. Nothing feels forced.
Just a clean, direct demonstration that plays exactly as it appears.
Designed to Be Used
Preserved Thoughts is designed for real performance. It’s direct, reliable, and adaptable to the environments you already work in. There’s nothing to justify, and nothing that feels out of place. After each performance, the slips are simply returned to the jar, keeping everything ready for the next group.
Three Themes. Three Completely Different Experiences
Each jar is built on the same underlying system, but what it creates in performance is entirely different. Each jar has its own theme and flavour, below is a breakdown of each of those themes.
Questions to Ask a Psychic
A modern Q&A, contained within a single jar.
In performance, this becomes a shared, conversational experience rather than a random selection. The host, birthday guest, or organiser is invited to remove several slips from the jar and read them silently, immediately establishing that each question is different, with no repetition or duplication. From there, they begin to guide the moment, choosing questions that feel relevant to the people around the table. Questions that connect. Questions that matter.
You take each one in turn. A participant focuses on their question silently, and you respond as a psychic would - not as a trick, but as a conversation. The more you speak, the more it connects. The room quietens, people lean in, and the attention shifts from “what’s the method?” to “what’s being said?”. Others listen closely, often adding their own thoughts as they recognise the situation being described. It becomes less about a single reveal, and more about a series of moments shared across the group.
Perfect for dinner parties, hen dos, one-to-one work, or intimate group settings, this is quite literally a Q&A experience in a jar.
Funny Actions
This is where everything changes.
The tone shifts immediately from quiet and conversational to something interactive, visual, and full of energy. Slips are drawn and read silently by the participants, revealing a simple instruction - something playful, unexpected, often ridiculous. Before anything happens, you already know exactly what they’re about to do. You can reveal it outright, or allow the moment to build before committing.
Then it happens. An exaggerated pose, a sudden movement, something no one else could have anticipated. The reaction is instant. Laughter spreads, others get involved, and what began as a simple selection quickly becomes a shared moment that lifts the entire room.
At its core, it feels like a form of mind reading charades. Actions are chosen freely, performed openly, and yet you remain one step ahead, identifying what is about to happen or what has just taken place without ever seeing it. The structure remains the same as the Q&A, but the experience could not be more different. This is loud, visual, and highly engaging - perfect for dinner parties, parlour, stage, or any environment where you want something interactive and memorable.
De-Motivate
The sarcastic cousin of the motivational quote jar.
Here, the focus shifts again. The host is invited to select several slips and read them silently, discovering a collection of dry, witty observations that feel all too familiar. As with the other themes, this establishes that each slip is different. They then begin to assign them, not randomly, but deliberately, choosing the quote they feel best fits each person around the table.
Before anything is revealed, you introduce a new premise. You’ve attempted to commit the quotes to memory. Now, it’s not just about revealing a thought, but about understanding who it belongs to.
You study a participant, consider them for a moment, and begin to describe the tone of what they’re thinking. Not inspirational, but observational. Slightly cynical, but honest. Then you commit, matching the thought to the person before revealing the exact quote they’ve just read.
It lands with recognition first, then a knowing laugh. And then it happens again. Each time, the connection feels stronger, not just that you know the thought, but that you understand why it fits. This creates a different kind of reaction - quieter than the laughter of Funny Actions, but no less powerful.
Perfect for close-up, dinner parties, and smaller groups, this sits between the other two themes, blending humour, timing, and insight into something that feels both entertaining and strangely personal.
In Practice
In use, Preserved Thoughts is as simple as it appears. Participants select slips, read them silently, and focuses on what they’ve seen. From there, everything unfolds naturally. It’s a piece you can introduce quickly, adapt to the moment, and return to again and again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the slips printed in English?
Yes. Preserved Thoughts was designed and developed in the UK and the supplied slips are professionally printed in English.
Can I replace the supplied slips with my own handwritten slips?
No. Preserved Thoughts is a complete system where the jars, slips, printed materials, and themes work together. Replacing the supplied slips with handwritten alternatives would remove the very structure that makes the system work.
Do all the slips say the same thing?
No. Every slip within each theme is genuinely different. There are no duplicated outcomes.
Are there any electronics, apps, or hidden technology involved?
No. Preserved Thoughts does not rely on electronics, apps, mobile phones, batteries, or any form of technology.
Are the jars made from glass?
No. The jars are made from clear plastic, making them lightweight, durable, and safe to carry in performance cases, luggage, and travel bags without the concerns associated with glass.
Is this suitable for close-up or stage?
Both. Preserved Thoughts works particularly well in close-up, parlour, dinner party, and small stage environments depending on the theme and presentation.
How difficult is it to learn?
The underlying system is straightforward. Comprehensive online instruction videos guide you through everything step by step.
Can the same jar be used repeatedly?
Yes. The system was designed around repeatability and multiple interactions.
Do I need to perform readings to use this?
Not at all. While the Questions to Ask a Psychic theme naturally lends itself to readings, the Funny Actions and De-Motivate themes require no reading ability whatsoever.
Why affirmation jars?
Because they feel familiar, innocent, and completely natural. Participants instantly understand what they are and how to interact with them, allowing you to focus on the performance rather than explaining a process.
Is any assembly required?
A very small amount of simple customisation may be required before first use. This process is quick, straightforward, and fully explained within the online instruction videos.
Are refill packs available?
Yes. Replacement slips, printed materials, hangtags, and jars are available separately for existing owners.
